Un rayo de luz

Trio for Clarinet in Bb, Harp, and Cello

Program Note

Un Rayo de Luz portrays the idea of how a small stream of light can be enough to warm a dark cold place. Sometimes, that little stream of light can be enough to warm our hearts as well. That ray of light could come to us as a person who help us find the way. This work is Kindly dedicated to my friend and fellow composer Josué Viera. Josué was very helpful when I decided to switch to a different notation software offering his knowledge and advice making the process seamless and enjoyable.

In the work, all instruments will be influenced by the stream of light represented by the first phrase in the clarinet.  The harp and cello will contribute in representing the warmth. At the beginning the emotional idea is more reflexive, followed by moments of tension representing the darkness. In the final section, the warmth and calmness of the ray of light will be introduced by the arpeggiated ostinato from the harp while en Clarinet and Cello present an intense dialogue of beautiful lines.
